This Fair Park museum features several old locomotives and cars. The gift shop
is in the restored 1905 Houston and Texas Central Depot. Included are the world's largest
steam locomotive, a twelve-section open sleeper train, and electric locomotive #4903 that
pulled the 1968 funeral train of Senator Robert Kennedy. Some of passenger cars may be
boarded. Cullum & Fitzhugh 214 428-0101 Cotton Bowl Built in 1930, the Cotton Bowl is the
home of the Texas-OU game come October of each year. In addition the Dallas Cowboys games
were played in the Cotton Bowl until 1971 and SMU's home games were played here, too, for
years although they're now played at Owenby Stadium. The stadium is the city of Dallas'
largest outdoor facility with a capacity of 100,000 fans. Cotton Bowl was also the site of
the famous New Year's Day football game of that name that pitted the Southwest Conference
champions against an invited opponent. Dallas Aquarium Aquatic life
including about 400 species of freshwater and saltwater fishes. There are cases of
beautiful shells and other non-living aquatic materials plus amphibians, reptiles, and
assorted invertebrates. Call about classes for kids and the Adopt-a-Fish program.
Dallas Horticulture Center This 7,200
square foot conservatory is home to over 250 species of African flora, an educational
greenhouse, and workshops or projects for families. 7.5 acres of outdoor gardens including
rose gardens (over 40 species), herb garden and scent garden. The Xeriscape Garden
demonstrates low water use. The William D. Blachly conservatory, a 6,800 glass house,
shows just how plants relate to each other, human beings, and animals. Also shows how
plants adapt to different environments. Although there is no charge for admittance, a
donation is requested for conservatory visit. Dallas Museum of Natural History
Special nature programs and a mock 'back yard' of insects reinforces an
interest in ecology. Reptiles. Nature walk, dinosaurs, mounted native animals and birds,
mollusks. Science, dinosaur, and discovery programs. Science Place and Planetarium For
almost 40 years, the Science Place in Fair Park has been building excitement about science
in DFW children. Literally hundreds of hands-on exhibits and displays about science,
energy, electricity, physics, health, etc. Permanent exhibits include Senses, the Number
Forest, Dino Dig, Language World, and the Goodwin Seashell Collection. Hands-On Physics is
also excellent. Science Place Planetarium presents programs that are changed periodically
and often coincide with Science Place exhibits. There are permanent and changing exhibits
here. Special programs are offered on week-end for young children. Also see TI
Founders IMAX Theater Texas Hall of State Several
murals depict the state's history from pioneer days til time building was built in 1936.

Houston. Superb art deco building. Also look for the Starplex Amphitheater, Fair Park Music Hall, and the newly moved Museum of African-American Life and Culture.
