Texas State Forests All Texas State Forests are located southeast of DFW. Fairfield State Forest is closest to the metroplex. Because the State Forests are wildlife refuges, recreation is limited. No hunting or overnight camping is permitted in any of the Texas State Forests. Day use activities are permitted in all but one and limited fishing is available in designated areas only. Texas State Forests are permanent wildlife refuges. All forests are managed by the Texas Forest Service under Texas A & M University. Fairfield State Forest Small day-use
area with fishing, hiking, picnicking in main tract 1/4 mile south of US 84. Total acreage
is 2,740. Jones State Forest Self-guided nature
trail is in northwest corner of forest. Forest also offers picnic sites and restrooms at
pond near district headquarters. Total acreage is 1,725 acres. Kirby State Forest Picnic facilities
only. Located between Woodville and Beaumont. Masterson State Forest No public
facilities of any sort. Total acreage is 519 acres. Located northeast of Beaumont near
Texas-Louisiana border. Siecke State Forest Fishing available
in Trout Creek and in pond near district headquarters. Swimming plus covered picnic
shelters along creek. Located near Texas-Louisiana border and Sabine River. Indian Mound Tree Nursery Also part
of Texas Forest Service. Literally provides millions of seedlings each year for
reforestation in Texas.
