Start with a walking tour of Mustang Trail in Farmers Branch. Then drive west to Irving. See how movies are made in the DFW area, check out some movie and television history, and drive on down O'Connor to see the Mustangs at Williams Square. Farmers Branch Historical Park 22 acre park. Mustang Trail, a
9.5 mile loop at Historical Park between Denton Drive and Ford Road follows city streets
and passes 22 historic points including Dallas County's first blacksmith shop,
church, school, gristmill, and old rock home of one of Dallas County's first doctors,
Samuel Gilbert. Picnic tables. Also includes 1856 dogtrot stone house and 1847 log house.
Buildings are handicapped accessible. Las Colinas Communications Complex Studio
tour gives you a behind-the-scenes look at a film/television sound stage. This is an
active movie studio. JFK, Robocop, and other favorites were filmed here. National Museum of Communications Features
film and television memorabilia. Part of studio tours of Las Colinas Communications
Complex. Visitors can have hands on experience with such things as sending messages from
one teletype to another, transmitting Morse code, and using radio sound effects. After you check out the Mustangs at Williams Square, younger children will enjoy playing at Victoria Park, Northgate and Pleasant Run, in Irving. Victoria Park has excellent wood play facilities, a duck pond, and room to roam. It is also a good luncheon picnic spot. Shade is sparse. Restrooms and water fountains are available at this Irving park. There are several good restaurants near Williams Square. Frijoles, at O'Connor and State Highway 114, serves Mexican food. Texas Bar and Grill, at 220 East Las Colinas Blvd., serves a mixed grill and is located on the canal. Both restaurants offer an informal setting, moderately-priced food, and outdoor seating when weather is suitable. Mustang Cafe, actually located at Williams Square, is more formal and more expensive. Strolling the canal is also an interesting way to end the day at Las Colinas. Descend the rock steps by Texas Bar and Grill on East Last Colinas Blvd to enter the canal area. |
