It is 1974. Homes are smaller; dual-family incomes are rare; people know their neighbors; most families are satisfied with their share of the earth's material possessions..... Where are we now? The following table shows that we are exactly were we were in the 1970s when most families had smaller homes, a single income, and one car. Our higher incomes has been used to buy the larger home, another car, and daycare for our children. Where are we now? Yes, we have a larger home, a second car, and our kids are in a "good" daycare. But are we actually better off financially than we were in the 70s? Can we go back to that earlier time in an ecovillage situation in the 21st century? When is enough enough?
