A rural ecovillage, an intentional community, is forming east of Dallas between Greenville and Terrell. Our zero-energy homes will be sustainable with solar electricity, solar hot water, rainwater harvesting, and other green features. We will grow our own food organically and those who wish will grow food to sell. Because food prices and the need for producing our own food is growing all too quickly, this community will form rapidly. However, you will not need to build your home immediately. The important thing now is to form the original community, buy the land and then get the land in shape for farming.. The community is a village for vegetarians and omnivores who want to raise their own food organically. The community will be in Hunt County between I-30 and I-20, easily accessible to the metroplex. This is an area where land is more reasonable in price. We will have a good aquifer there for our well(s) and quick access to Lake Tawakoni for fun. I did consult a geologist before starting this. She chose Hunt County as the least likely place for oil and gas activity in the area near DFW. This is important for all of us who are fleeing the Barnett Shale and even for you who do not yet know the problems gas drilling can bring you. You have found general information about ecovillages and cooperative living at this website but periodically we offer a power point presentation that is specific to this one rural community. In addition, we meet often for farming and green-building specific learning and reskilling classes and opportunities. Time frame is to purchase land in Hunt County over the Nacatoch aquifer in spring of 2012 before another hot, Texas summer begins. We meet in the Rockwall/Hunt County area although we do meet in Dallas upon occasion. My phone number is 972 251-1532 if you have questions before or after the meetings. Please come when you can. I look forward to meeting you and showing you what an amazing place this ecovillage will be. Terry |
