NEW Register by September 1, 2010: Permaculture Class Sep 25 - Oct 9 - Permaculture has a vast potential for both urban and rural sustainability. Urban yards model themselves after natural forest eco-systems but focus on plants that provide food, beauty, cover for small animals, and other resources. Vertical space is used to make up for what is lacking in horizontal space. Rainwater harvesting plus natural and green building methods are covered. This Permaculture course will be taught by Patricia Allison using both lecture and hands-on experience. Patricia lives in Earthaven Ecovillage and has her vast knowledge of Earthaven to impart in this class. $1100 cost includes tuition, camping at Wildscape Acres near Ravenna, TX, food, and certification upon completion. You can also stay in nearby Bonham in a hotel or B&B but that cost is not included. Register by September 1 by calling Melissa at 828-669-7632 or email: paulabren@cableone.net or email paulabren@cableone.net with questions.
Where would you like to
live in DFW? Urban Villages Create Good Neighbors Although it is true that urban villages create good neighbors, it is also true that only good neighbors can create an outstanding urban village. If you say "yes" to most of the questions below, please come meet like-minded people who could become your new neighbors.
Are you interested in living in the urban equivalent of a village? An earth-friendly, more simple, and less expensive way of living in the city? A place where you know, help, and depend on your neighbors? A place of safety for your children and grandchildren? Do you want to live in a smaller, energy-efficient home within a green community? An ecovillage is composed of private homes. It sometimes has shared amenities that are owned and managed by the residents. It balances friendly neighborhoods with the privacy of a home retreat. The homes are built to conserve resources and may use some alternative forms of energy. The houses are often, but not always, clustered around shared facilities such as a common house, an organic garden, and/or a workshop. The design resembles a village green. By clustering the homes and parking, residents also share open land, even in a land-scarce areas.
