Maintenance is minimal .The only mechanical moving part on your solar system for pools is the diverting valve.

However, there is other movement. The solar panels will expand and contract from heating and cooling while on your roof.

It is important to choose a panel manufacturer that uses the same material throughout the solar collector.  You want every part of the panel to expand or contract at the same rate or you will have leaks.

Solar pool panels are tough. Yet, hail is tough, too, particularly in North Texas in the spring and fall. What does hail do to solar pool panels?

John Mann of Sunrise Solar of Dallas-Fort Worth, Inc., answers, "It has not been a problem with our pool panels. In fact, we often have to take the intact panels off so the roof can be replaced from hail damage. However, homeowner's insurance pays to take the panels off and put them back on after roof replacement. Since homeowner's insurance also pays for new panels in the event of damage, even that is not a problem or an expense to the homeowner."
