The way you store your electricity determines the type of system that you install. You have two choices for storage:

1. Off the Grid: In a stand-alone system, also known as "off the grid" or "stand alone," a bank of deep-cycle batteries is used for storage. With the batteries, you are supplying your own storage.

2. On the Grid: In a system that is connected to the utility grid, also known as "on the grid" or "grid connected," electricity is fed into the utility grid when the system is producing more electricity than your home is using. When your home needs more electricity than it is producing, it draws that electricity from the grid.  The utility grid is supplying your storage.
