What about the companies Oncor
Electric Delivery, Luminant, and TXU Energy? They are a triangle: All in the electricity business of Texas, all formerly one company, Now separated as:
Luminant and TXU Energy are not
regulated by the state. Oncor Electric Delivery is regulated by the Public
Utility Commission of Texas. Oncor Electric Delivery, through
its many customers (companies that sell electricity to you such as Reiiant
and Green Mountain) has about 3,000,000 commercial and residential users in Texas.
Approximately 2,000,000 of these are residential. Oncor is legally an affiliate of TXU Energy as both are owned by Energy Future Holdings Corp. Luminant is attempting to build
another nuclear plant in Texas at a price of $22,000,000,000. That is the
projected price and it will probably be many times that because of
overruns. Overruns or not, a 22 billion dollar price tag on this nuclear
plant will guarantee that Texas residents have a tremendous, and probably
unprecedented, increase in electricity rates. Texas already has some of the
highest electricity rates in the United States. These rates are tied to
the higher price of natural gas although much of the electricity is
actually produced by coal-fired plants that are relatively cheap to
operate. Deregulation For
