Relative humidity is a measure of the
water vapor content of the air at a given temperature. The amount of
moisture in the air is compared with the maximum amount that the air could
contain at the same temperature and expressed as a percentage. Warm air has the potential to hold more
water vapor than cool air. If the amount of water vapor in the air is held
constant: · When you reduce the temperature, the relative humidity goes up. · When you increase the temperature, the relative humidity goes down. High Humidity
and Power Usage You know what high humidity is when you
step outside on a summer day and feel the air--thick and wet--along with
your sticky skin and sweaty brow. It makes you want to run for the nearest
swimming pool or air-conditioned room. An air conditioner
consumes energy at a rate determined by both the outdoor temperature and
the relative humidity, which means high humidity makes your utility bills
higher, too, because you are only comfortable at lower temperatures. Since
humans are more comfortable in summer with lower humidity, reducing your
home's humidity will ultimately reduce your power usage--the least
expensive way. Call Terry Jensen at 972 251-1532 or 817 545-0140. Back to Humidity Directory
