Absences A child should be kept at home whenever there are symptoms of illness. Any child with viral symptoms (vomiting, fever, diarrhea) should not return for 24 hours after the symptoms have disappeared. We also request that you keep your child home with any symptom of the usual childhood diseases (scarlet fever, German measles, chicken pox), or common cold, runny nose, sore throat, unexplained rash, ringworm, impetigo, or pink eye. This consideration will benefit your child as well as his/her classmates at Sprouts Preschool. Please notify the teacher if your child contracts a contagious disease so parents of other exposed children can be notified. If your child is taking medication or has been on medication, please inform your child’s teacher. Teachers at Sprouts Preschool do not dispense medication to children. A parent must come to school to give the child the medication if it is needed during school hours. When your child is not sick, we do encourage the habit of regular attendance. If your child is to be away from school for an extended time, please advise the teacher. Health Sprouts Preschool requires a Certificate of Immunization and Health from your child’s doctor or the Health Department. Emergency Procedures When students become ill at school, every effort will be made to notify parents, guardians, or the emergency contact person. All food items must be cut (including cutting hot dogs and grapes into fourths) and ready for your child to eat. Clothing Please dress your child comfortably in something that he/she can wear without the fear of getting messed up. We will go outside to play everyday (weather permitting), so please dress your child accordingly. Please send them to school in close-toed shoes so the wood chips in the playground will not get into their shoes. Your child also needs to have in a backpack or bag an extra change of clothes including underwear and socks. These need all be labeled with your child’s name as well as any clothing that is to be removed (sweaters, hats, etc.). Please keep a jacket in the backpack for chilly days. Toys Please do not allow your child to bring toys to Sprouts Preschool. Toys brought from home are difficult to keep up with, share, and put away. There are plenty of toys and activities for your child at school. The exception to this rule is on the first day of school when he or she may bring a teddy bear or other stuffed friend to share with his/her new Sprout Preschool friends. Birthdays Each child will receive recognition on his/her birthday. He/she may bring cupcakes or cookies to serve the class at snack time. Please notify your child’s teacher if you wish to send a treat. Do not send party invitations to Sprouts Preschool unless the entire class is invited Calendars-Newsletters Calendars/newsletters will be sent home at the beginning of each month outlining your child's activities at Sprouts Preschool. Please keep it visible (perhaps on your refrigerator) so you can talk with your child about his/her preschool activities. There will also be days a lunchbox will not be needed or days involving home participation. Please keep in mind that an unplanned activity or a classroom mood could warrant occasional activity changes. Discipline Sprouts Preschool provides a caring environment that encourages children to use their verbal and social skills to solve problems and conflicts. We focus on positive methods of discipline and reinforcement while also providing opportunities for the children to develop self-control. Infraction of rules will result in a "time out" (having the child sit out for a short period of time). Parents will be notified if a problem persists. Thank you for entrusting your child with us. We take the care, safety, and well-being of all the children very seriously. In compliance with the standards and procedures set-up by the church, we are including the guidelines for defining and reporting child abuse and sexual misconduct. This is to inform you of the channels that are available should you suspect any inappropriate behavior. In addition, please be aware that we are bound by law to report any abuse that we suspect. |
