Definition of Vegetarian and Vegan |
|
|
People are drawn to the vegetarian or vegan
lifestyle for environmental, health, resource, spiritual, and/or ethical
reasons. VEGETARIANS eat a diet of vegetables, fruits,
grains, beans, nuts, seeds--with or without--dairy products and eggs. Vegetarians do not eat meat, poultry, game, fish,
shellfish, or meat by-products. A lacto-ovo vegetarian eats dairy products and
eggs. A lacto vegetarian eats dairy products but no
eggs. An ovo vegetarian eats eggs but no dairy products. VEGANS practice a lifestyle which excludes, as far
as possible, all forms of animal use for food, clothing, or other
purposes. In dietary terms, vegans eat no animal products or derivatives. In clothing terms, vegans wear no leather, fur, or other animal products. |
